Chapter50
Ziana’s POV
Even though they didn’t directly tell me they loved me, I’m still an awkward mess. I don’t like the L word. It comes with the risk of getting hurt or people using your loved ones against you.
“Just because you don’t say it doesn’t mean that people can’t hurt you or be used against you. And stop freaking out, even if they did tell you that they loved you indirectly, you don’t have to say it back, dummy.” Arora says and I so far today I have learned that although she is the reasonable one, she is very straightforward and slightly rude.
“Oh stop being overdramatic. We’re alike in that way you just don’t like that I am now your bullsh*t meter and ding when I sense it.” She says, making me shake my head and snorting out a laugh.
“What are you laughing about?” Zane asks, pulling me from my internal argument with my wolf.
“Oh nothing. Just getting used to having a sassy and overdramatic wolf.” I answer. She growls in my head, making me smile. Zane laughs as Killian studies me..
“You’re having full conversations with her?” He asks and I nod. “Hmm. I’m glad Grim doesn’t do that. He is a wolf of few words. I don’t think I could handle him speaking all the time.” He ponders and I laugh.
“I could see how that would bother you, but I kind of like it. It’s like.. A reminder that I’ll never be alone again.
It’s nice.” I answer, then feel both sets of hands on me tense.
“You’ll never be alone again because we will always be here. You want annoying? I’ll let Zane stay with you one on one. If you want anything else, I’ll be there.” Killian says and Zane reaches around me and smacks
Killian on the head.
“A*shole.” Zane grumbles, and I laugh.
“When would you guys want to do a ceremony? I know my mom will ask when I talk to her. And Warrick will insist on it as well.” I ask, changing the topic, as we end the song and move off to this side of the gathered
crowd.
“We can give it some more time. We felt your emotions when we mentioned it.” Killian answers.
“Agreed. There is no need to rush it. We will do it on our own time, nobody else’s.” Zane agrees and I nod appreciatively, then look around at all of the smiling faces and listen to the laughter. My mood turns a bit
sour as I begin to look around the surrounding forest, what if we’re being watched right now. What if another
woman is being taken and we are sitting here enjoying the festivities when we could be questioning the
prisoner?
“Are you okay? Your mood just did a 180.” Zane asks and I nod, face set with determination.
“I should go and speak to our friend in the cells. Today was good, but with the threat of Reg–eye–na, I don’t
see being truly relaxed until he is gone.” I say.
“Whatever you want, darling.” Killian says, taking my hand and leading me to Marissa and Mikey.
“Congrats again to the both of you. I am so happy for you. Thank you for asking me to be a part of this. We are going to turn in. If you need anything, please reach out to us.” I say as we approach, hugging each of
them

“We will. Thank you all for your help today.” Marissa says, bending her head to us.
“It was no problem at all. I’m just glad to have been able to help. Have a good night.” Killian says, nodding to them and escorting me back into the packhouse, then through another set of doors that lead to the side of
the packhouse.
We make our way to the training center and enter what looks like a side door to the building, but it actually
leads to the cellar.
The guards inside acknowledge us, one of them going pale as he sees me. He was here yesterday and witnessed my gruesome, but effective method of gaining information.
“Anything out of him today?” Zane asks the guards and they shake their heads.
“No, Beta. He’s been sleeping all day.” The not pale guard answers.
“Thank you, you may leave if you do not wish to watch this.” I say, eying the guard that is still pale and now
looks a bit green. He nods his head frantically and runs from the room like he is on fire. The other guard
glances at the prisoner and back to me, then shakes his head, facing the wall and acting like we aren’t there.
The cell door opens and I enter, noticing the tilt of the prisoner’s head and his breathing.
“I know you’re awake.” I say as I kick his chair, he jolts and his brown eyes meet mine. The fear lacing them
makes me pause.
Huh, normally the fear feeds the darkness, but I feel nothing.
“The warehouse was a bust, Gerald. You lied.” I state, using a random name because I know it messes with people’s heads and gives them a false sense of hope. Killian and Zane found his name yesterday, or at least his alias. The man came in here as a merchant, selling jewels. Gerald shakes his head frantically.
“No. No I didn’t, I swear!” He yells as I grab his nose and break it, then send electricity for added pain.
“No Please! Stop!” He screams, but I just chuckle.
“You have to give us something, Gerald. There was nothing at the warehouse. They were supposed to meet you there for the girl. That’s what you said. Isn’t it?” I ask and he nods.
“Ye. Yes, that was the drop off point. Maybe they knew I was caught?” He asks and I shake my head.
“Not good enough. Give me all of the information you have.” I say grabbing a random chair in the corner of the room and sitting in front of him so that we are eye to eye.
“I. The guy found me wondering. I’m a lone wolf and was out hunting. He threatened me and my ex mate. She rejected me, but I still love her. I will always love her.” He begins but I sigh.
“Blah Blah. Get to the details.” I say, pulling the knife from my boot and twirling it. He flinches then looks at
Killian and Zane who are standing behind me.
“He threatened her. Said if I didn’t do as he said, he would do worse than kill her. I didn’t want to find out what that meant. Death was enough of a threat, but something worse than death? No. I couldn’t have that so, the guy gave me a burner phone, put me in a random house in the woods and sent me fake IDs, scent repellent, and instructions on what he wanted me to do.” He explains, I hear Killian growl from behind me.
“How many girls have you taken?” He asks.
“From here? 1 successfully and the one today. Er yesterday.” The man answers, looking anywhere but

towards Killian, who surges forward and punches the man in the eye. The man grunts and curses, then quiets down as his gaze is on the ground. I watch as he fidgets, and blinks rapidly. Almost as if something is in his eye, other than Killian’s fist a moment ago, but something is off. He closes his eyes and I see hirm shake his
head.
“What else is there?” I ask, but he just shakes his head, refusing to answer. “Hey.” I say, grabbing his chin and sending sparks in warning. His eyes open and I realize that one of his eyes has moved slightly, revealing a light pink edge.
“Contacts.” I say and go to move my hand, but the man catches it, smiling at me as my surroundings
disappear.
