Eric didn’t say a word. 

Alice stretched, arms high above her head. Her yawn broke the silence. 

“It’s fine,” she said casually. “If today doesn’t fix it, then try again tomorrow. There’s always a way,” 

Eric stayed frozen, sitting on the edge of the bed with his thoughts spinning.

Alice stood up and slipped into her jacket right in front of him, not the least bit flustered. 

“It’s breakfast time,” she said, brushing her hair from her face. 

“And I’ve got a battle to fight.” 

She was talking about the mess with Global Hotel. 

Ever since Irene had cleared Risa’s name, Global Hotel had ended

And things hadn’t slowed down. 

The story kept building. 

Alice already knew what would happen the moment she walked into the office.

When Daniel came upstairs to call him for breakfast, he paused in the doorway and raised a brow.

“Any updates on Stanley?” he asked.

But he could picture it. A woman bold enough to build a full organization, and smart enough to lead someone like Mr. Eric out of danger–that took real power. 

What a loss. 

If she had made it to their side of the world, she could’ve been unstoppable. 

Still, the feeling didn’t last. 

Honestly, he was glad she hadn’t survived it. 

Because if she had, what would happen to Alice? 

“Daniel!” 

Eric’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. 

Daniel straightened up right away, 

“Sorry, Mr. Eric. What did you say just now?” 

Eric pressed his fingers to his forehead for a moment, then said calmly, “Tell your brother to stop looking. If there’s still nothing, he can come–home.” 

Daniel’s heart felt like it took off at full speed.

Eric came to a halt at his words.

“Looks like Ms. Randall is starting to panic,” he said quietly. 

Daniel didn’t understand, so he kept quiet. 

Still, he couldn’t help feeling that this visit to the Martinezes was pointless. 

The family had hit a rough patch recently. 

“Mr. Eric, who do you think is behind the attacks on the Martinezes?” 

In Mapleford, the Martinezes had always been at the top. 

After Oscar and Eric both fell into comas, the family had grown even stronger. 

Even Irene had treated them with respect.

He just turned and headed downstairs.

Morning sunlight streamed through the windows, wrapping her in a golden glow that made her look almost unreal. 

“You’re leaving that soon?” she asked, her tone touched with disappointment. 

“I thought you said a few more days.” 

The voice on the other end must have said something harsh, because her smile disappeared. 

“I’ll see you off tonight, then,” she said. 

“Don’t worry, I’ll have everything handled by this evening. We’ll have time for a good drink.” 

Then she hung up without waiting for a reply. 

Eric had only caught the end of the call, but it hit him hard.
