He looked at Hector, stunned, and couldn’t help but ask, “Officer Hector, are you serious?”
Hector pinched the bridge of his nose. “Of course I’in serious. It’s getting late—don’t waste time.”
With that, he left the holding cell, leaving only the trainee and Tessa behind.
Tessa was genuinely a little surprised.
She hadn’t expected the trainee to actually be of any use.
And yet, somehow, he really had gotten her released.
The moment she realized that, she was the first to recover.
She looked at the trainee with a grateful expression. “Officer, thank you so much.”
“There’s no need to thank me–it’s just my job,” the trainee said honestly, without a hint of caution.
“Besides, you were just cooperating with the investigation. What was there to be afraid of?”
Hearing that, a faint, bitter smile appeared on Tessa’s lips.
“But if it weren’t for you, I probably wouldn’t even get treatment for my injuries.”
As she spoke, her eyes glistened with unshed tears.
Her voice was hoarse, but her face still had its charm.
Men loved it when women leaned on them–it stroked their egos, gave them a sense of pride and purpose.
And the trainee was no exception.
He quickly offered, “Come on, Miss Walton, I’ll take you there. With your voice like that… it’s better not to delay.”
Tessa nodded, the corners of her lips curving into a satisfied smile.
She knew exactly how to manipulate a man’s heart.
What to say, what expression to wear, and when to use it.
She had even studied it.
So, when it came to someone like this trainee, she had hir completely in the palm of her hand.
The young officer happily escorted her to the hospital, a grin never leaving his face.
Watching the whole thing from upstairs, Hector could only shake his head.
A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth–one filled with cold irony.
Was this the charm of Tessa?
How long had it even been, and that trainee was already bending over backward for her?
Hector couldn’t help but shake his head at the thought.
He turned around, just about to go report to the chief, when he spotted the lead officer standing not far from him.
He gave a respectful greeting, then made to leave.
There was no time to waste–he needed to update the chief.

Hector frowned slightly in confusion. “Sit, what’s the meaning of this?”
The lead officer didn’t respond directly.
Instead, he took a more sentimental approach.
“Hector, if I remember right, I was the one who trained you when you first joined the force, wasn’t I?
“Back then, you were just a hotheaded kid- always charging forward, thinking nothing could stop you.”
Hector pressed his lips into a thin line, unsure what this was leading to.
Still, he followed the lead officer’s cue.
“Yes, sir. I owe everything I’ve accomplished to you. You trained and guided me—I wouldn’t be here without you.”
The lead officer nodded, looking as if he was genuinely moved that Hector still remembered.
But something about it felt off.
Just as Hector was about to change the subject and head off to find the chief, the lead officer’s gaze suddenly turned sharp.
“Good,” he said coldly. “For a moment, I thought you’d forgotten it all.”
