“So, there’s no easy way out of this grief?” I ask her.
“I wish there was. Believe me, if I could wave my magic wand and take your pain away, I would. I understand your pain better than most. I know I’m only here for the weekend, but if you ever need to talk, I will make myself available to you. I’ll leave you my number before I leave and you can call me anytime, day or night. Even if you just want someone to be near you while you cry. I understand that too,” she says.
“I see where Christian gets his compassion from,” I say to her.
She laughs. “Well, I would tell you that his father is an amazingly compassionate man. Sebastian sees things that others don’t. Christian got that from him.”
“I think he got it from both of you, Alpha,” I say to her.
She smiles. “Maybe. But I still say my mate is more compassionate than I am. I’m pretty sure my daughter gets most of her attitude from me. Hopefully she won’t break your brother before we leave.”
I laugh. “I’m pretty sure Shane can handle her.”
“I don’t know. My daughter is a force to be reckoned with,” she says.

“But I love her for it. Whoever her mate is, he’s going to be one hell of a man. The Moon Goddess would have to pair her with someone who is able to handle her spirit and her smart mouth,” she says, chuckling.
She looks around, as if assessing the pack and the pack lands, then she turns back to me.
“So, what’s going on between you and my son?” she asks..
“What? Nothing.”
She raises her eyebrow at me but doesn’t say anything, holding my gaze until I begin squirming.
“Why do you think there is something going on between us?” I ask, trying to divert the conversation.
“Isn’t there?”
“No. Your son if very appropriate with me.” Usually.
“Mmm, so the tension I feel between the two of you is …?” she asks, leaving the question open.
I fold my arms across my chest. “You must know that your son is extremely attractive. Many of the pack members have said it. But he’s very appropriate with me,” I say.
“And that bothers you?” she asks.
I am on the verge of getting defensive when I remember something Christian and I have talked about.
“I told him he was perfect. It pissed me off. Why does he have to be so perfect all the time?” I say, frustrated all over again about how perfect he is.

“My son is far from perfect,” she says.
“That’s what he said. But it’s not true. He’s good at everything. He’s
smart, he’s strong, he’s incredibly good looking…” Okay, I didn’t mean to say that last part out loud
“He is all of those things, but that doesn’t mean he’s perfect.”
“It sure seems like he is.”
“You want to know what his weakness is?” she asks conspiratorially
“Yes!”
“His sister. Sebastiana can get under Christian’s skin like no one else. I don’t know if it’s because they’re siblings, or if my daughter is just that good at ruffling feathers, but she is his weakness.”
Interesting. I’m going to have to watch the interactions between Christian and Sebastiana very closely this weekend.
