He sighs again and crouches down in front of me. He reaches out and tucks my hair behind my car. “But you’re going through a lot emotionally right now. You could be seeking comfort from someone you deem trustworthy. And I want to be trustworthy, Enya,” he says, closing his eyes as if he really does want that. “I want to be a person that you can look at when I leave here in two years and know that I respected you, that I treated you well. I don’t ever want you to look back on this time and feel like I took advantage of you.”
I begin shaking my head no. That’s not what will happen. But he reaches out, gently cupping my face in his large hand.
“You’re in the middle of so many emotions right now, Enya, that you can’t know that. Look, when you turn eighteen, if we’re mates, all bets are off. I will gladly claim you. I will kiss you all day, every day for the rest of our lives to make up for these few months that are left until your birthday. But between now and then, I need to maintain boundaries. I need to be the guardian and Alpha that you need, even if that means I‘ m not the man you want me to be. Do you understand? This is NOT a rejection. It’s the farthest thing from it.”
I feel a tear drip out of my eye and I swipe it away. Another begins to leak out of the other eye and Christian swipes his thumb, wiping it away for me.
He’s been honest and even though I don’t like what he’s said, I do appreciate that he wants me to respect him. So, I opt for my own honesty.
“I liked the way you kissed me.”

His head drops forward and he sighs again, like putting up with me is the heaviest weight he’s ever had to carry.
When he looks up at me again, he looks torn, like he’s not sure if he should say what he’s thinking.
“Your lips tasted better than anything I’ve ever tasted in my life. I could have kissed you for hours and never gotten tired of your sweet taste, he says, making me gasp.
I don’t realize that I’m leaning in toward him until he gives me a soft warning growl. “Enya, we are both naked. We are nowhere near anyone else, and I only have so much restraint when it comes to you.”
He stands the large dick that was hanging between his legs before has somehow gotten even larger and is now standing at attention. “And in case you didn’t know, this is what happens to a man when he’s turned on by a woman,” he says, gesturing to himself. “And while I would love to leave you out here and get as far away from you as I can so the very tenuous control I have on my emotions doesn’t snap and I ravage your body right here and now, I can’t.”
“Why?” I whisper.
I was hoping for some revelation about him feeling drawn to me, instead he slaps me with a shock I wasn’t expecting
but
“Because I don’t think your father’s death was an accident. Shane and I are investigating his death and things aren’t adding up. And if that’s the case, it puts the two of you at an even greater risk than you were in before. So please, Enya, shift and come back with me.
”
“You think someone conspired to kill my father?” I say, all theat from our conversation gone.
