Looking back on it now, it was a miracle she hadn’t been run over in her sleep that night. Pure luck, really. 

As her thoughts wandered aimlessly, she tugged the light blanket over her body. 

The faint scent of sandalwood lingered on the fabric–it was calming, almost too calming. 

It reminded her of the rosary bracelet Eric always wore. 

That bracelet was clearly high quality, its wooden beads worn smooth and glossy from years of handling, 

Because of it, Eric always carried a subtle trace of sandalwood with him. 

Now curled under the covers, wrapped in that scent, it felt as though she was nestled right in Eric’s arms. 

That thought alone made her cheeks flush. 

She must’ve fried her brain with the hairdryer earlier. 

Seriously. Why was she overthinking everything today? 

Shaking it off, she shut her eyes and forced herself to sleep. 

Eric, however, didn’t get a wink of rest. 

The bed still held Alice’s scent. 

It was everywhere, inescapable. 

Even after counting sheep for a dozen times, it/didn’t help. 

The next morning, Alice stretched lazily and let out a contented sigh. 

She turned–and found Eric sitting stiffly on the junior bed, his expression a storm cloud. 

Her eyes were annoyingly sharp, so she immediately noticed the dark circles under his eyes. 

As a doctor, she diagnosed him instantly: severe sleep deprivation. 

But she still found it a little funny. 

“Mr. Eric,” she said, stifling a grin, “it looks like you didn’t quite figure out how to see things from your doctor’s perspective last night.” 

She gave a helpless sigh, as though pitying his failed 

attempt 

“Changing a doctor–patient dynamic isn’t that easy, you know.” 

Eric didn’t respond.

At breakfast, Daniel could feel the oppressive atmosphere hanging over the dining room. 

It wasn’t new, really–Eric had always been moody at breakfast back when his sleep problems were worke 

But ever since he came out of that coma, things had been better. 

So today’s sudden shift? Alarming. Daniel’s nerves were on high alert. 

His mind raced through thousands of scenarios, trying to pinpoint the source. Eventually, his eyes landed on Alice. 

She noticed his stare and raised an eyebrow. “Why do you keep staring at me?” 

Daniel shrank back slightly. “I just want to ask about that guy… um, Venom… 

Alice clamped her mouth shut.

The moment the name left his lips, the room temperature seemed to plummet. Eric’s already icy aura dropped another ten degrees. 

Daniel’s heart nearly exploded from anxiety. 

Crap. Wrong answer. 

What should I do? 

This isn’t covered in the employee handbook. Stanley definitely hadn’t prepped me for this. 

I’m out of his depth. 

After a long pause, Alice finally sighed. 

“Mr. Eric and I will go talk to Venom ourselves.” 

The instant those words left her mouth, Daniel could feel the air clearing. It was like someone opened a window in a stuffy room. 

My heart is safe. For now. 

Eric gave a casual grunt, pretending to be cold, as if he was reluctant to do this and the whole thing was beneath him. 

Daniel snorted internally. 

After the whole Mr. Reese incident, he was convinced that his boss definitely had a thing for Alice. 

Probably in the early stage, he didn’t even realize it himself. 

Daniel sighed. 

How did a poor assistant like him end up in this mess? Not only did he have to do his job, but now he was stuck playing Cupid for his boss. 

He was basically a nanny.

“Mr. Eric, Alice said as she gracefully sliced her weak. 

She seemed relaxed, but the elegance she exuded was hard to ignore. 

It was the kind of poise that made people wonder if she’d been trained in royal etiquette overseas. 

She didn’t care for those impressions, though, and went on casually, “The group Venom’s with is called Ouroboros, It’s a dangerous organization, infamous internationally 

She gave him a quick warning. 

“That kid seems a little unhinged. Maybe bring something for self–defense? 

Eric arched a brow, “Aren’t doctors supposed to protect their patients?” 

He shut Alice up with that response. 

Is this going to be a running joke now? 

She sighed, tired. “In most cases, when the doctor–patient relationship goes wrong, it’s usually the patient hurting the doctor.” 

Eric agreed, “Then logically, you should be the one carrying self–defense tools.” 

Then he motioned for Daniel to open a drawer and handed her a spray bottle. 

Alice glanced at the label–and her mouth twitched. 

“Pepper spray?” she asked, stunned. “Seriously, Mr. Eric?” 

Eric finished his steak and replied in a slow, dry tone, “Snake repellents are hard to find.” 

Alice had no words. 

She was giving him a serious warning, and he turned it into a deadpan joke. 

Forget it! 

Clearly, they were never on the same wavelength. 

“Fine,” she muttered, taking the bottle and spraying a few test bursts into the air. 

Instant regret. 

All three of them bolted out of the house, coughing and gagging. 

The scent was way too strong. 

Later, when they arrived at the office, Daniel leaned in and whispered, “Mrs. Nolan, maybe de pepper spray unless it’s an actual emergency.” 

Alice couldn’t argue with that.
