I’m still stunned at how fast Corey attacked Christian and how much faster Christian reacted. You’d think that Corey would have learned his lesson the first time, but apparently not.
After he’s dragged out, Christian drops the bomb on me..
“What do you mean the attack wasn’t random and my father’s death wasn’t accidental?” I ask him. .
“I’m not sure yet. But during these next two interviews, pay attention to what’s NOT being said. Watch their eyes to see if they glance away, even for a second. Watch their hands to see if they flex with an involuntary reaction. Watch their faces to see if they flush with knowledge they aren’t willing to share. Look past the arrogance and bravado. I want to know what you see. Tomorrow, you and I are making a trip to the pack hospital, and I better be happy with what I find out,” he says, angrily.
This is the first time I’ve seen Christian angry. He doesn’t get angry. However, based on what he’s saying, it sounds like my father didn’t die of natural causes. He was murdered.
“What’s the last warrior’s name?” he asks me.
“Dexter,” I say, still reeling from what he’s told me. I feel his hand, confident and unwavering on my shoulder.
“Are you ready?”
“Yes,” I say, not sure that I really am
He calls Dexter in next.
“What the fuck? You’re punching us until we’re unconscious again?” he asks as soon as he walks in.
“Only if you attack me or Alpha Shane,” Christian says, which makes Dexter focus on him, then look at me.
“Have a seat,” Christian says.
He starts out with the questions he’s asked everyone, about the attack on him, how they feel about the safety of the pack especially now that he’s here. Then he drops the bomb.
“So, how do you feel about the timing of the attack on the pack?” he asks.
If he hadn’t told me to watch for it, I wouldn’t have seen his fingers flex instinctively.
“I don’t know what you mean,” he says. He’s not slouching as arrogantly as Corey was, but that’s because he’s smarter. That’s why his interview came after Corey’s.
“Why did they attack in the first place?” he asks, but Dexter is better prepared for the question this time.
“I don’t know. Aren’t you the Alpha now? Isn’t that part of what Alphas do? Figure out why someone attacks their pack?” he as–s
“Yeah, it is. I’m working on that. It doesn’t really make sense to me that a pack would attack this well–established pack. Where were you during the attack?” he asks him.

“I was on the battlefield with all the other warriors in this pack.”
“What pack was it that attacked?” he asks.
“I don’t know. I didn’t recognize any of the warriors.”
“So, an unknown pack attacks this one for an unknown reason. Interesting.”
“I don’t find it interesting at all. Our Alpha and Luna are dead,” he
says.
“Yes, they are. Who has the most to gain from losing the Alpha of the pack?” he asks.
Dexter’s eyes flicker to me as if he’s going to say I have the most to gain.
“Besides the Alpha heir,” Christian says.
“No one,” he says, shrugging. Even I know that’s a bullshit answer. The next person in line for succession is the Beta. It’s the obvious answer and any pack member, even down to the omegas, knows it. He‘ s covering for Dorian.
“You, maybe?” Christian asks.
“What would I have to gain?” he asks.
“That’s the question, isn’t it? What did you have to gain?”
