Because wasn’t that true?

Hadn’t I spent all morning convincing myself to forget it?
To push it away?
To bury it deep enough that it wouldn’t bother me anymore?
So then why did hearing him say it feel like a punch to the gut?
My fingers curled around the hem of my oversized pajama shirt, fidgeting with the fabric as I forced myself to say. “I have questions.”
Ethan’s expression went blank, his brows pinching together slightly–like he was trying to process what I had
just said.
Then–just like that–his lips curled into a cheerful, almost teasing grin.
“What do you want to know?”
My cheeks burned.
Damn him.
I should have known he would find a way to make me flustered.
I quickly tried to regain my composure, my eyes darting around for something–anything–to ground me.
And then I spotted it.
His mug.
Without thinking, I reached forward and snatched it right out of his hands.
Ethan barely had time to react before I took a sip-
Big mistake.
“Shit!” I hissed, pulling the cup away as a sharp sting shot through my lip.
Too hot.
Ethan chuckled, his shoulders shaking slightly as he watched me with pure amusement. “That was smooth.”
1 scowled at him, pressing my thumb against my lip to ease the burn.
Chapter 77
“Put on your damn shirt.”
His grin widened.
“Why?”
1 shot him a glare
“Just do it.”
With a quiet chuckle, Ethan grabbed his shirt from the chair and pulled it over his head. I refused to acknowledge the way my eyes lingered on the way his muscles flexed as he did.
I moved toward the dining table, sitting down, forcing myself to focus.
A moment later, Ethan sat across from me, his gaze watching me intently.
I took a breath. “Okay…” I started, my tone more serious now. “A lot of things have been going on, and for me to understand you better, I need to know you better.”
Ethan didn’t say a word.
He just waited.
I swallowed, my fingers drumming against the table. “So, for starters… My eyes met his. “What are you?”
“A werewolf,” he said without a second of hesitation.
1 blinked.
Just like that?
“That’s not crazy at all,” I muttered under my breath.
Ethan’s lips twitched into a small smile.
“So, is Greg a… Wolfrine, too?”
“Werewolf.”
“Right.”
“And yes, he is.”
1 chewed on the inside of my cheek, the weight of the conversation finally settling in. “Is my mother hist
mate?”
Ethan hesitated..
Just for a second.

Chapter 77
Then he nodded.
“Yes.”
Wow.
That was… a lot to process.
Before I could ask another question, the sound of the front door creaking open echoed through the house.
Both of us turned toward the entrance.
Footsteps.
Then, a familiar voice. “Well, well, what do we have here?”
I tensed.
Aunt Anya.
Ethan leaned back slightly, his expression neutral as Aunt Anya strolled into the room, her sharp eyes sweeping over the two of us.
Her gaze flickered between me and Ethan, a knowing smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
“So, is this your boyfriend?” she teased, raising an eyebrow as she crossed her arms.
I choked.
“No!” The word shot out of my mouth so fast it nearly tripped over itself. I could feel the heat creeping up my neck, burning my ears. “It’s Ethan!”
Aunt Anya hummed, “Oh…” Her sharp eyes lingered on Ethan for a moment before she turned back to me. “Catarina’s stepson.”
The air in the room shifted.
I nodded slowly, my voice coming out lower than usual. “Yes.”
Aunt Anya tilted her head slightly, watching me with something close to curiosity. Then her lips parted, “Your stepbrother?”
I stiffened.
Ethan said nothing.
And for some reason, that silence felt deafening.
“Yes, 1 breathed out after what felt like eternity.
Chapter 77
Aunt Anya blinked, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. “O…kay.”
The single word dragged out, filled with hesitation, as if she wasn’t sure whether to pry further or let it go.
I kept my eyes on the floor, pretending that the sudden tightness in my chest wasn’t there.
Aunt Anya exhaled sharply and clapped her hands together. “Well, that was awkward.”
No shit.
“I didn’t know you were having guests over, Camila.” Her tone was light, teasing even, but there was something in her eyes–something sharp, like she was piecing things together.
“Sorry about that “1
“Sorry about that,” I muttered, still not looking at her.
“Ah.” She dragged the word out again, then glanced at Ethan. “So, are you staying here or just passing through?”
Ethan, to his credit, didn’t even flinch under her scrutiny. He leaned back against the counter, completely unbothered, and shrugged. “I’m staying.”
My head snapped toward him. “You’re what-?”
“For a while, he corrected smoothly, like he hadn’t just dropped that bombshell.
Aunt Anya arched an eyebrow. “I see.”
No, she didn’t. I sure as hell didn’t.
“And where exactly will you be staying?” she asked, amusement lacing her voice.
“Here,” Ethan stated, looking directly at me as he spoke.
I inhaled sharply. What.
“Like hell you are!” I blurted out.
