Chapter 18
Cyra
I can’t believe Yorick killed that guy. If I wasn’t in such horrible pain, I would probably care more. But it’s all I can do to not scream in agony as Yorick rushes me to the infirmary.
“I’ve got an emergency!” he yells as he rushes us through the doors.
A doctor runs up, takes one look at my knee and tells Yorick to follow her. She takes me straight to an x–ray room where Yorick gently lays me on the
table.
“Alpha, I need you to step out of the room,” the doctor says.
“I’ll be right back,” he says and rushes out.
“What’s your name, Alpha?” the doctor asks.
“Cyra. Cyra Teymoori.”
“Alpha Cyra, I’m Dr. Johnston. I’m going to get an x–ray of your knee and see how bad it is,” she says. “Stay still for me. I know it hurts.”
She steps out of the room, and I hear a mechanical humming sound before she comes back in. Yorick bursts into the room right behind her, his phone to
his ear.
“Mom, I need your help. A… student at the Academy got kicked in her knee, dislocating it. Mom you have to help her or she’ll get expelled from the Academy,” he says.
Oh shit. That thought hadn’t yet occurred to me. I swallow the bile in my stomach, partly from the pain in my knee and partly from the idea of losing the last year of my life before bonding with Stellan.
“Excuse me! This is MY hospital. You are not in charge here. I don’t know who you think you are, or who you think you can call to help Ms. Teymoori, but get out and stop distracting me,” the doctor growls.
“My mother is Dr. Yara Hill. She is renowned in the medical industry. Forgive me if I believe that she can do more to help Cyra from across the country than you can standing in this room,” Yorick snarls at her.
“Yorick, calm down son. Anger and anxiety have no place in a hospital,” I hear a woman’s voice through the phone. Even from a long distance, her voice sounds calm and soothing.
“Your mother is Dr. Yara?” the doctor asks.
“Yeah. I’m Yorick Hill, her son.”
The doctor holds out her hand and Yorick hands over the phone, narrowing his eyes as if he expects her to disconnect the call.
“Dr. Yara, this is Dr. Charlotte Johnston. I’m not sure if you … oh you do remember me. Yes,” she says, looking at me. “Yes, I’m just about to look at the x- rays. Hold on just a moment.”
“Alpha Cyra, is it okay with you if I speak to Dr. Yara?”
I look at Yorick. He wouldn’t have called her if he didn’t think she could help.
“Yes.”
“Thank you,” she says, stepping out of the room.
“Has she given you anything for the pain yet,” Yorick says, coming over and taking my hand.

“Don’t worry about me. You worry about yourself and healing. How is Rina?”
“Struggling not to heal me, but she knows if she does,
I just have to undo it to put my knee back into position,” she says.
“Okay, Alpha Cyra, Dr. Yara are I are in agreement with how to proceed,” she says, handing Yorick his phone. “I studied under your mother at your pack, Alpha Yorick. I am well versed on how to treat this type of Finjury.”
He nods, glancing at the phone before pocketing it and turning back to me.
“Alpha Cyra, I’m going to sedate you and take you in for surgery,” she says. “How is your wolf?”
“Unhappy that she can’t start healing me,” I say.
“That’s a good sign. What’s your wolf’s name?”
“My name is Rina, doctor,” Rina says, pushing forward. She’s as surprised as I am that the doctor is asking about her.
“Rina, the sedation will work on you too, although in my experience, you will recover faster than Alpha Cyra. When you wake after surgery, you may begin healing your human. If you are as strong as most Alphas, you’ll only miss one day of sparring class, so you won’t fall behind.”
“I’m not leaving your side,” Yorick says.
I smile at him, ignoring the pain. “You won’t be allowed in the operating room, wake up,” I tell him.
“How long will the operation take?” he asks Dr. Johnston.

“I’ll be back before you wake up,” he says, leaning over to kiss my forehead.
“Thanks, Yorick,” I say as Dr. Johnston inserts the IV into my arm.
One minute I am awake and the next I’m out.
Yorick POV
I stayed with Cyra until the anesthesia took effect. Then I stood back while the doctor took her into surgery. When I stepped into the waiting room, our friends were waiting for me.
“How is she?” Piper asks.
“They’re taking her in for surgery now. Thankfully, it looks like she’ll be able to rejoin classes on Thursday.”
“Oh, thank the goddess,” Piper says.
“Yeah. Did you guys eat already? I need to shower and change my clothes.”

“We haven’t eaten yet, but you have a problem, Shakespeare,” Zach says.
“What’s that?”
“Hill! My office. NOW!” Alpha Leo barks from the entrance of the infirmary.
“That,” Zach says.
“I’ll see you guys later,” I say, following Alpha
his office. Inside, I find all of the instructors.
“Have a seat, Alpha,” he growls.
“How is Alpha Cyra?” Warrior Callie asks me.
“She’s in surgery,” I say. “Dr. Johnston says she’ll be out of

“Good,” she says, looking around at the other instructors who nod.
I turn back to face Alpha Leo.
“You killed another student,” he says. “That is against the rules of this Academy and is grounds for immediate expulsion.”

He sits back, obviously unhappy with this turn of events.
“I am curious though, Alpha. How is it that two days in a row, competitors were able to attempt or seriously injure their sparring partner after the match was called? I shouldn’t have had to step in. That guy would still be alive if he hadn’t been allowed to attack my mate,” I say.
“What are you implying, Alpha Yorick?” he growls.
“He’s right, Leo. I should have been watching, especially after yesterday. I called the match and looked at Callie to see who was next. In the future, I’ll wait until both parties are up and have moved away before turning my attention away from the fighters,” Alpha Nevaeh says.
“One of us can stand up there with you, Alpha. That way if you are distracted, the other one can make sure there isn’t anything underhanded going on,” Warrior Soren says.
“Thank you,” I say to them.
“Do Alpha Megan and Alpha Cyra have some sort of issue with each other?” Warrior Ronan asks me. “There seems to be some animosity there.”
“Other than Megan blatantly hitting on me even though I’m obviously with Cyra, no. To my knowledge, they never met before Sunday,” I tell him.
“You’re dismissed, Alpha Yorick. But you had better watch yourself. I won’t tolerate indiscriminate killing.”
“As long as no one goes after my mate, we’ll have no problem. If they do, if they hurt her, they’re dead. My threat to Megan was not an empty one,” I say standing.
“Understood,” he says standing as well.
I walk to the door. As I step out, I see Alpha Leo still glowering at me. I’m guessing my year here is going to be more difficult now, but it doesn’t matter. No one will hurt Cyra and if these instructors can’t keep control of Megan and her little posse, then they’ll face Thad’s wrath.
